Everton have reportedly beaten Southampton and Borussia Dortmund to sign Theo Walcott.
According to Sky Sports, Arsenal forward Theo Walcott has snubbed interest from Borussia Dortmund in order to push through a move to Everton.
Walcott, 28, was once billed as one of English football’s top young talents with Southampton, and when Arsenal landed him in January 2006, he was touted as Thierry Henry’s heir with the Gunners.
Whilst he has hit 108 goals in 397 games for Arsenal, Walcott hasn’t quite lived up to expectations in North London, and he hasn’t even started a single Premier League game this season.
Many expected Walcott to move on during this month’s transfer window, and that is now set to come true as Sky Sports report that he will undergo a medical with Everton today.
The Toffees are set to secure a £20million deal for Walcott, and it seems that Sam Allardyce and co have fended off strong competition to land his signature.
It’s claimed that Southampton were interested in re-signing Walcott, whilst European giants Borussia Dortmund were also pursuing a deal, but the forward picked Everton.
Everton’s ambition and the presence of Allardyce are believed to have been key in Walcott’s decision, and he will now be looking to complete his move ahead of the weekend visit of West Bromwich Albion.
Beating Dortmund to Walcott’s signature will be a huge boost for Everton fans, and a sign that despite a disappointing season so far, they can still secure major deals for big-name players even in the face of strong competition.
