The Italian is reportedly on the verge of parting company with the Championship club.

A report in the Telegraph has claimed that Roberto Di Matteo is on the verge of being sacked by Aston Villa, and has named two of the Championship managers who will be in the running to replace the Italian.
Following the 2-0 defeat to Preston North End on Saturday, the Villans are currently 19th in the second tier, having won just one of their opening 11 games in the league.
And the Telegraph reports that this latest defeat has left the club’s owner Tony Xia with a decision to make, and one that is likely to see the former Chelsea boss relieved of his duties.
And should that be the case, the Telegraph reports that Mick McCarthy of Ipswich Town and Huddersfield’s David Wagner are two of the candidates to fill the hot-seat.

The Daily Mail reported in April that McCarthy was in the running to take the job in the summer following Remi Garde’s departure, so it perhaps may not be a surprise if he is wanted once again.
Meanwhile, Wagner – who worked alongside Jurgen Klopp at Borussia Dortmund – is enjoying a brilliant spell at the John Smith’s Stadium. The Terriers are the surprise leaders in the division, so it is not difficult to see why he is reportedly on their radar.
Whether Wagner would be keen on taking the job currently remains to be seen. While the Midlands side have the stature needed to convince someone to drop out of the promotion picture for a side battling much lower down, he is clearly building something with Huddersfield, and would be forgiven for wanting to see that project through.
