According to the Chronicle, Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez is keeping a close eye on the progress of his side’s youngsters.

Newcastle’s under-23 side have been in poor form this season, but Benitez still sees promise in some of the academy players.

It is claimed that Freddie Woodman, Jamie Sterry and Dan Barlaser are all regularly included in first-team training sessions.

Woodman, Sterry and Barlaser are all considered to have a chance to break into Newcastle’s senior squad in the future – although their chances have been limited so far.

Benitez has stuck by his more experienced players this term, with Newcastle’s academy players generally overlooked.

Even Rolando Aarons, who is arguably the Magpies’ most exciting young talent, has barely been used in the first-team.

Woodman, Sterry and Barsalar could be made available for loan in January, as Newcastle look to aid their development.

Barsalar stated this week that he wanted a temporary move away from Newcastle at the next available opportunity, as he seeks to gain experience of playing senior football.
