Report names the Newcastle United player who impressed Steve Bruce immediately in training

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce has struggled to get the best out of Miguel Almiron so far.

According to the Chronicle, Steve Bruce was quickly impressed by Newcastle United attacker Miguel Almiron in training.

Almiron actually missed the initial part of Bruce’s time at Newcastle, as he was at the Copa America with Paraguay.

However, upon his return to the Magpies, Bruce was immediately impressed with the tireless winger.

Bruce reportedly immediately noticed the speed of Almiron, and felt that he could offer an option for Newcastle up-front as a result.

Bruce has opted to utilise a 3-5-2 formation for Newcastle’s first two matches, but after a pair of defeats on the bounce there are huge questions being asked over the effectiveness of the tactic.

Almiron has struggled in a central role, after being tasked to drive Newcastle up the field, but often being very isolated on his dribbles.

It could be that Bruce quickly changes his plan, and switches formation at the weekend.

Almiron has looked far more threatening from a wide position last term, and the new Newcastle boss must be tempted to use one of his most dangerous attackers on the wing again, as he seeks to get the best out of the January signing.
