Sunderland are said to be edging closer to finding David Moyes’ replacement at the Stadium of Light.

According to the Northern Echo, Sunderland are edging closer to appointing a new manager.

Sunderland have been without a boss since David Moyes left the Stadium of Light last month.

Moyes’ resignation came as a blow to Ellis Short, who had planned on the Scottish boss sticking around.

However, Sunderland are now stepping up their attempts to find a new manager.

The Black Cats are set to start the interview process this week, with their shortlist now down to four names.

Derek McInnes and Simon Grayson are believed to be at the top of Sunderland’s wishlist, but Garry Monk and Nigel Pearson remain contenders.

Sunderland have been impressed by the job that McInnes has done at Aberdeen, but the fact they would have to pay compensation for him could put that deal in doubt.

Monk and Pearson, on the other hand, are free agents and could come into Sunderland’s thinking – if McInnes is deemed to be too expensive.
