David Moyes is reportedly seeking a reunion with Lescott, who has held talks with Rangers boss Mark Warburton regarding a move to Ibrox.
Lescott, right, is reportedly free to leave Aston Villa
The Daily Record has named Sunderland as rivals in Rangers’ Joleon Lescott pursuit.
Light Blues boss Mark Warburton was pictured holding talks with the Aston Villa man on Tuesday, having allegedly travelled to England in a bid to get his man.
And the report claims it was interest from David Moyes’ Black Cats which prompted the 53-year-old’s trip across the border.
“Warburton is well aware of the interest from Sunderland which is why he was so keen to travel south to have a proper conversation with Joleon, man to man,” a source reportedly told the Daily Record.
“It’s obviously difficult for a club with Rangers’ resources to be competing for players against English Premier League clubs but sometimes the little things make a big difference. Clearly, Warburton wants to show Lescott how highly he is valued and how important he would be to the Rangers side.”
Moyes signed Lescott for Everton in 2006 with no prior top flight experience and nurtured him into one of the Premier League’s best defenders.

The former England international was eventually sold to Manchester City for £24 million three years later, but a reunion could well be on the cards with the futures of two Sunderland defenders uncertain.
Ivorian centre-half Lamine Kone is a target for Moyes’ former club Everton, while Watford are said to fancy his partner at the back Younes Kaboul (France Football).
Rangers are set to finalise their 10th summer signing in Preston striker Joe Garner, but the signing of a defender remains the final piece of Warburton’s summer puzzle.
