Rangers are reportedly pursuing Derek McInnes as their new manager.
According to The Scottish Sun, Rangers have made Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes their top target to replace Pedro Caixinha in the Ibrox hot seat.
The Gers decided to part ways with manager Caixinha on Thursday afternoon following a board meeting, less than 24 hours after the 1-1 home draw with Kilmarnock.
Just days after losing 2-0 to Motherwell in the Scottish League Cup, Rangers could only muster a 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock, having managed to have a man sent off, miss a penalty and concede a last-gasp equaliser.
That proved to be Caixinha’s final moment as Rangers boss, as the Gers sacked Caixinha after just seven months in the job, leaving Dave King and co to find a replacement.
A host of names are already being discussed by fans, but The Scottish Sun report that the club’s top target to replace Caixinha is Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes.
McInnes, 46, endured a difficult spell with Bristol City before rebuilding his reputation with Aberdeen following his appointment in 2013.
The Scot now boasts a 58% win rate over more than four years at Pittodrie, and Dons fans were delighted when McInnes snubbed a move to Sunderland over the summer.
Now though, they find their manager being targeted once again, with Rangers allegedly hoping to bring him back to Ibrox, given that McInnes played 40 games for the Gers as a midfielder.
Given his experience in Scottish football and his recent battles with Celtic, McInnes may be the choice for many fans, though his styles of football may be a concern to some.
