According to ARA, Liverpool made an offer for Ansu Fati while the wonderkid was in negotiations with Barcelona over a new contract.
What’s the story?
Well, the Spanish news outlet believe Fati is close to signing a new six-year contract with Barcelona, including a €1bn (£844m) release clause.
However, ARA claim that talks were not easy, as the 18-year-old had better offers financially from the Premier League, with Liverpool named.
Manchester United are mentioned as another club who were interested.
ARA state that Liverpool ‘bathed’ Fati in gold, although he preferred to continue his journey at Barcelona, where he has inherited Lionel Messi’s No.10 shirt.
The task of replacing the six-time Ballon d’Or winner is a daunting one, but a pathway the teenager is clearly keen to take.
Would Ansu Fati have suited Liverpool?

If Liverpool managed to get Fati to Anfield, it would’ve been one of the most significant signings in recent times.
At just 18 years of age, Fati has already racked up four caps for Spain, as well as 47 first-team appearances for Barcelona.
In those outings, he has scored 15 goals while providing six assists.
There is plenty of pressure on Fati’s young shoulders to carry Barcelona through their current misery, and he is doing just that.

Had Liverpool prised him away from the Camp Nou, it’s not far fetched to say that Jürgen Klopp would’ve had the next Messi on his hands.
After all, the pair both emerged from La Masia, and Fati has inherited the iconic No.10 shirt despite his age.
Despite failing in their attempts, it should encourage Liverpool fans to hear that their club was closely monitoring Fati’s situation.
Clearly, Michael Edwards is keeping on top of contract situations across Europe – Kylian Mbappe’s expires in June, for what it’s worth…
