Premier League duo Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Ham United reportedly want to sign Otamendi from Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
Nicolas Otamendi is dreaming of a return to Valencia this summer, according to Goal, potentially ending any hopes West Ham or Wolves had of keeping the defender in the Premier League.
The Argentina international looks likely to leave Manchester City this summer after falling down the pecking order under Pep Guardiola. And Marca claimed at the weekend that both West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers were interested.
Otamendi has connections to both clubs. His agent, Jorge Mendes, has a number of clients already plying their trade at Molineux while West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini was in charge of Manchester City when the commanding centre-back moved to England for £32 million four years ago.
But Goal claims that a return to Valencia is Otamendi’s priority. The 31-year-old spent the 2014/15 season at the Mestalla, playing under current Wolves coach Nuno Espirito Santo.
And Otamendi could be further tempted by a return if Valencia qualify for the Champions League. They are currently just three points adrift of fourth-placed Getafe.
So Wolves and West Ham will be hoping that Nuno or Pellegrini, two managers who have an excellent relationship with Otamendi, can give them at least a sliver of a chance.
