According to The Times, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur were against the takeover of Newcastle United by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF).

As reported by The Times, PIF have decided to withdraw their proposal to buy Newcastle after the Premier League failed to make a decision after so many weeks.

It has been reported by the publication that Liverpool and Tottenham were among the clubs who opposed the takeover.

Disappointment for Newcastle United fans

One suspects that Newcastle fans will be hugely disappointed that PIF have decided to withdraw their proposed to buy the Premier League club.

The St. James’ Park faithful must have been eagerly awaiting the day when the club would be owned by someone other than Mike Ashley.

Although Ashley has invested in the squad over the years, Newcastle have been relegated to the Championship twice under him, and have not really progressed as a club or shown a lot of ambition.

It remains to be seen if any other prospective buyers will come and make an offer for Newcastle now that PIF are no longer interested.
