Rangers may still be looking to add another striker into their Ibrox ranks.
According to GSP in Romania, an unnamed Scottish club is attempting to sign CFR Cluj attacker Billel Omrani, with a €3.5million (£3.2million) bid suggested, prompting questions about whether Rangers and Celtic are keen.
Omrani, 26, came through the ranks with Marseille, but chose to end his nine-year association with the club in 2016, choosing a move to Romania with Cluj.
The Frenchman hit nine goals and a huge 15 assists last season, but has really made a name for himself this summer, scoring six goals in six Champions League qualifiers – including a brace to knock Celtic out at Parkhead last week.
Now, reports in Romania claim that an unnamed Scottish club has made a move for Omrani, with teams in Israel also keen to land him.
That now begs the question; who is trying to sign him? With a £3.2million fee mentioned, there are only two clubs who could realistically land him, and they’re Celtic and Rangers.
Celtic have seen Omrani up close in their Champions League qualifiers, and Neil Lennon may well want another attacker to help Leigh Griffiths and Odsonne Edouard.
Omrani would fit the bill, as he can either lead the line as a centre forward or play on either flank, and that versatility would be hugely appealing.
Meanwhile, Rangers have let Kyle Lafferty leave Ibrox. Steven Gerrard may be interested in adding one more striker to support Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe, with Omrani offering a more physical option at 6ft 2in tall.
The fee may be more likely for Celtic than Rangers, but having seen Celtic struggle with him, Rangers may well be keen to add Omrani to their ranks for the Scottish Premiership title race – and hope that he can down Celtic once again.
We’ll now have to see whether Omrani heads to Ibrox or Parkhead, but either move would be hugely interesting after his heroics last week.
