According to Mundo Deportivo, a mystery Premier League club made a late move to sign Barcelona striker Martin Braithwaite.
It’s stated that an unnamed side in England made a last-gasp move for Braithwaite in the hope of prising him away from the Camp Nou.
However, Braithwaite made it clear that he had no intention of leaving Barcelona on deadline day, so no deal deal was done.
So who could this mystery club have been? Three clubs emerged for his signature in November according to SPORT – Leeds United, West Bromwich Albion and West Ham United.
Leeds maybe do need to add another striker to support Patrick Bamford given that Rodrigo has been playing more as a number 10 of late, but the Whites don’t tend to be busy in January.
West Brom could fit as a suitor, but they have already added a striker in Mbaye Diagne, so signing Braithwaite may not have been a priority.
We would have to pick out West Ham as the favourites, given that they were desperately searching for a striker to replace Sebastien Haller following his move to Ajax.
Michail Antonio needed some support, and Braithwaite – despite past struggles at Middlesbrough – could have really helped, but the Dane wasn’t for moving on deadline day.
