Newcastle United could still sign West Bromwich Albion’s Salomon Rondon, according to a report.

According to The Northern Echo, Newcastle United’s reported pursuit of Yoshinori Muto does not spell the end of their interest in West Bromwich Albion star Salamon Rondon.

The Magpies are expected to tie up a £9.5 million deal for the Japan international over the next 24 hours.

If and when that happens, Newcastle will have four strikers – Muto, Dwight Gayle, Joselu and linked-away Aleksandar Mitrovic.

However, The Northern Echo reckons that signing the West Brom hitman – whose release clause is £16.5 million – remains on the cards in spite of their options.

The report adds that a move for Rondon likely hinges on what happens with Mitrovic.

The Serbia star has been linked with Fulham for most of the transfer window after helping the Cottagers to Premier League promotion last term.

But The Echo adds that Slavisa Jokanovic is ‘reluctant’ to budge on Rafael Benitez’s £20 million asking price.

If Fulham don’t offer a handsome fee for the 23-year-old then it seems unlikely that the Spanish manager can finance a move for Rondon, who scored seven Premier League goals last season.
