David Moyes will reportedly be without Jarrod Bowen this Thursday for West Ham’s historic European clash against Sevilla.
According to the Athletic, the 25-year-old winger is likely to miss the Irons trip to Andalusia this week as West Ham take on Sevilla in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League Round of 16, with Bowen also a doubt for next weekend’s Premier League clash against Aston Villa.
As well as two huge games for West Ham, Bowen’s injury comes at the worst possible timing, with the attacker in-line to be called up by Gareth Southgate for the first time for England’s international friendlies against the Ivory Coast and Switzerland.
Bowen suffered a blow to the heel in West Ham’s 1-0 loss to Liverpool last weekend, with the attacker forced off injured in a result that has damaged the Irons hopes of a top-four finish in the Premier League.
And now, with the in-form attacker now likely to miss this Thursday’s trip to Sevilla, West Ham could be without one of their key players for what is set to be one of the club’s biggest games in recent memory.
West Ham have not played a European knockout match since 1981, and the east London side were one of the best teams in this year’s Europa League group stage, with the Irons winning their first four games to qualify for the last 16 in stunning fashion.
Bowen’s injury is huge for West Ham’s chances against Sevilla
West Ham face the kings of the Europa League in Sevilla, with the La Liga giants the most successful club in the modern incarceration of the competition, and with Bowen out through injury, Moyes’ side odds of a win have dwindled significantly.
Branded ‘brilliant’ by Gary Neville, the attacker has been one of the best English players in the Premier League this season, and no Bowen due to injury could see West Ham struggle to break down Sevilla in Spain.
