According to The Chronicle, Sunderland manager David Moyes travelled to watch Hibernian in action against Dundee United on Friday evening – with Efe Ambrose believed to be his target.

Scottish Championship leaders Hibs travelled to Tannadice on Friday evening for a top of the table clash, and Neil Lennon’s side claimed a 1-0 win through Jason Cummings’ goal, though the striker was later sent off.

Lennon’s men are six points clear at the top of the table, and whilst Hibernian are set for a return to the top flight, it seems that some players are attracting interest.

Star striker Cummings will surely be a wanted man, but The Chronicle report that Sunderland boss David Moyes was in attendance at Tannadice to watch Hibs defender Efe Ambrose.

The Nigerian international, 28, was frozen out at Celtic under Brendan Rodgers, but has been loaned out to Hibs to play under his former Bhoys manager Lennon.

Now, the centre back – who can also play at right back – is now playing regular first-team football again, and Moyes allegedly travelled up to Scotland to watch him in action.

Ambrose was heavily criticised during his time at Celtic, as his error-strewn performances led to him being pushed down the pecking order under Rodgers this season.

However, should Sunderland suffer relegation to the Championship, Ambrose could be an option in defence for the Black Cats, particularly if Lamine Kone leaves the club – and with his Celtic contract expiring this summer, Moyes may view him as a possible bargain, despite his detractors in Scotland.
