Recent reports have suggested that David Moyes could leave West Ham at the end of the season.
The London Evening Standard have reported that West Ham United will offer David Moyes an extended contract at the end of the season on one condition – if he can keep the Hammers in the Premier League.
Reports this week have suggested that the former Manchester United and Everton manager will be axed from his position at the London Stadium at the end of the 2017-18 season, regardless of how the Hammers do.
Moyes has taken his side from the relegation zone to a much safer 12th place, winning just four of his 15 Premier League matches in charge but only losing five.
However, they remain just three points above 18th-placed Stoke City, after Saturday’s 3-1 loss to Brighton and a relegation fight looks to be on the cards unless Moyes can win a handful of consecutive matches.
It is believed a two-year deal will be offered to Moyes, as well as his backroom staff, if he can keep West Ham up. But it depends on his financial requests as well as the negative atmosphere emanating from the club at the moment.
A step forwards in terms of consistency, or a step backwards in terms of pedigree?
It is a debate that plenty of West Ham fans will be having up an down the country. Moyes has done a mediocre job so far, arguably taking a side to where it should be – challenging for a place in the top half of the table.
But what has surrounded Moyes since his arrival is doubt that he can do a good job, negativity that the Hammers were unable to attract or appoint a bigger name.
Yes, handing Moyes the job is good for the consistency of the club. But if the Hammers are to progress, a new, exciting manager with fresh ideas should be targeted.
