Felipe Anderson is set to sign a four-to-five-year contract with Lazio in order to leave West Ham United this summer, according to Corriere dello Sport.

Lazio are determined to see Anderson return, only three years after selling him to West Ham. The Serie A side were even set to meet with one of the Brazilian’s representatives, super-agent Kia Joorabchian, in Rome on Wednesday to discuss the deal.

It is likely that Joorabchian only visited Lazio to cross the t’s and dot the i’s on Anderson’s move, as the West Ham winger is happy to go back. He will now sign a multi-year contract at the Stadio Olimpico, running for the next four to five years.

West Ham will receive just €3m (£2.5m) for Anderson, plus 50% of any fee Lazio may earn in the future. Corriere dello Sport previously noted that valuation, as did Calciomercato, and added that the two-cap international would accept a marginal pay cut.

But there is nothing marginal about the reduction he has agreed. The Italian publication now claim Anderson will earn €2m-a-year (£33k-p/w) at Lazio, down from his €4m annual (£66k-p/w) West Ham deal.

Anderson will likely put pen to paper on his contract on Wednesday, as well, to join Lazio for pre-season. It will cap a short stay at West Ham, where Spotrac believe he earns £85k-p/w.

West Ham to lose ‘something special’ as Anderson re-joins Lazio

Anderson failed to maintain the form from his debut season at West Ham, and will re-join Lazio as a flop. A costly one, too, having been the Irons’ record signing in 2018 for £36m.

The Brazilian could light up the Premier League during his first year at the London Stadium under Manuel Pellegrini. But Lazio will hope he rediscovers his best self back in Rome as those days were short-lived. A version that Jermaine Jenas was once in awe of.

“You always felt he had something special,” Jenas said, via quotes by football.london after dazzling at Newcastle in December 2018. He was in a league of his own then, but not for David Moyes.
