According to The Sun, Sunderland are looking to push through a late £6.5m deal for Saint-Etienne defender Florentin Pogba.

With questions still surrounding the future of star centre back Lamine Kone, Black Cats boss David Moyes may be in the market for a new defender before tonight’s transfer deadline – even after landing Papy Djilobodji and Paddy McNair.

A host of defenders are being linked with the club, but an interesting name is being touted for a move to Wearside – Saint-Etienne’s Florentin Pogba.

The Sun report that Moyes has placed Pogba on his radar, and is hoping to push through a deal worth up to £6.5m the Guinean international defender.

Pogba, 26, has been a regular for Saint-Etienne since signing from Sedan in 2012, though he spent his first season with the club back on loan at Sedan.

A powerful, pacy defender who can also play at left back, Pogba has allegedly chosen not to join up with the Guinea national team in case he gets his big move to England.

His brother Paul Pogba completed a world-record move to Manchester United earlier this summer, and whilst any deal with Sunderland would be a mere fraction of the cost of Paul’s move to Old Trafford, Florentin could join his brother in the Premier League.

It’s even added that Florentin knows Sunderland winger Adnan Januzaj through his brother, and the wide man could be used to try and tempt the centre back into joining Sunderland later today.
