West Ham manager David Moyes is reportedly plotting on deploying Manuel Lanzini as a deep-lying playmaker for next season.
According to the Athletic, the former Sunderland boss is eager to transition the 28-year-old Argentina international from an attacking midfielder into a deeper role on the pitch.
As per the report, it could be ‘his biggest masterstroke’ yet as West Ham manager.
Lanzini played in the role occasionally last season and impressed in the position.
Indeed, the South American starred for West Ham alongside Tomas Soucek in a midfield pivot in a 2-1 win against Burnley in May.
Lanzini could make the position his own next season
With Lanzini continuing to shine in the role in pre-season against the likes of Reading and Celtic, the playmaker has seemingly found a new lease of life for West Ham in his new position.

The revelation from Moyes could prove to be a massive turning point for the Hammers in this summer.
The Irons are one of the few sides to yet make a signing. However, Jesse Lingard continues to be linked with a return to West Ham.
Central midfield isn’t an area of concern for the east London side. But, Lanzini’s transition from a flashy attacking threat to a deep-lying playmaker could open the door for Moyes to experiment with the squad in Europe.
4-2-3-1 has been the formation of choice for Moyes since his return to the London Stadium. Yet a midfield three of Soucek, Lanzini and Declan Rice could provide more balance to the team in both attack and defence.
