According to the Daily Mail, David Moyes plans to use Aaron Wan-Bissaka as a centre-back if West Ham beat Crystal Palace to his signature.

What’s the story?

Well, the east Londoners are battling the south Londoners to sign the £50m man from Manchester United ahead of Thursday’s 11pm deadline.

Erik ten Hag stated that Wan-Bissaka would be staying at Old Trafford earlier today, but did admit that the Red Devils would remain “alert” to any potential market opportunities.

One of those could be the signing of Sergino Dest from Barcelona, which Sky Sports believe would free up the Manchester United No.29 to join Crystal Palace or West Ham.

If the latter win the race for his signature, Wan-Bissaka could find himself playing in an unusual position.

The Daily Mail believe Moyes is considering using the 24-year-old in the centre of defence, an area he has never played in before.

Wan-Bissaka has made 171 career appearances on the right, as well as one on the left of defence.

So far this season, Ten Hag has given the Crystal Palace academy graduate just four minutes of Premier League football, with Diogo Dalot preferred.

West Ham plans for Crystal Palace target could work

In our view, Moyes might be onto something.

Since moving to Manchester United, the main criticism of Wan-Bissaka has been towards his attacking abilities, which have become vital for a full-back in modern football.

Of course, progress is hard to judge when Ten Hag has been leaving him out, although he doesn’t appear to have made significant strides in that part of his game.

However, Wan-Bissaka remains one of the best defenders in Europe when it comes to tackles and interceptions, so perhaps a shift to the centre of defence is just what he needs to resurrect his career – only time will tell.
