Newcastle United are reportedly set to miss out on Paris Saint-Germain defender Moussa Sissako.

According to a report from The Sun’s live transfer blog (8/8; 11:54), Paris Saint-Germain are set to keep Moussa Sissako this summer despite the teenager holding talks with both Newcastle United and Brighton and Hove Albion this summer.

The Sun reports that the 18-year-old spoke to both of the Premier League clubs about a potential move, but he is looking set to remain at Parc des Princes.

It does appear to be a blow for the Magpies to miss out on Sissako, who is clearly highly rated by the Ligue 1 side. Steve Bruce has strengthened his squad with a couple of younger players in Kyle Scott and Jake Turner during this window, so it would have been another shrewd piece of business to get the PSG man in.

It may not be a missed opportunity that Newcastle rue immediately however, as Bruce does have a lot of depth available to him at the heart of the defence heading into the new Premier League season.

The likes of Fabian Schar, Jamaal Lascelles, Florian Lejeune and Federico Fernandez ensure that Newcastle are arguably as strong at centre-back as they are in any other position on the pitch.

But Sissako appears to be one for the future, so it may still be a disappointing outcome for Bruce, as well as Brighton, that he appears set to stay exactly where he is.
