Jose Mourinho was planning to sell Tottenham Hotspur duo Harry Winks and Dele Alli this summer but Daniel Levy wasn’t keen, the Telegraph have reported.
Both Winks and Alli have seen their game time limited at Tottenham this season, which has seen their value rapidly drop.
Mourinho was apparently ready to part company with the pair, even for a potentially reduced fee.
However, Levy apparently wants both players back involved at Tottenham again and concerns over a potential clash played some role in his sacking.
Tottenham parted company with Mourinho on Monday morning, and have since named Ryan Mason in charge.
Mason has promised to deliver an attacking brand of football and it will be interesting to see if Alli or Winks are involved this evening against Southampton.
Of the pair Alli arguably has the better chance of being selected.

On his day the playmaker remains one of the highest quality players that Tottenham have on their books, and his exclusion became more and more mystifying as time went by under Mourinho.
Spurs clearly weren’t functioning at their very best towards the end of his reign, so it was difficult to see how leaving Alli out was benefitting the side.
If Spurs could win tonight, it may just re-ignite some hopes that they could challenge for a top four place again, if Mason can spark them to life in the final few games.
