According to Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur want to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Matt Doherty this summer.
It’s claimed that Jose Mourinho is a big fan of Doherty, and now wants to lure him to North London in a surprise move.
Nuno Espirito Santo loves Doherty though, with three years left on his Wolves deal, the Molineux club are under no pressure to sell.
However, Wolves are set to sign Arsenal ace Ainsley Maitland-Niles in a £20million move, and he can play at right wing back.
Arsenal’s sale may now help Spurs land their top target, with Mourinho desperate to bring in a new right back back this summer.
Doherty, 28, has been an attacking force for Wolves since their promotion in 2018, registering an impressive eight goals and 11 assists in the top flight.
The Irishman would bring a real attacking threat to the Spurs side, whilst he has Premier League experience under his belt – just like Joe Hart and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Doherty was a boyhood Arsenal fan, which may irk some, but if Tottenham can tempt Wolves into a deal, few would turn their noses up.
