According to Calciomercato, Jose Mourinho is interested in bringing Mainz 05 striker Jean-Philippe Mateta to Tottenham, while Napoli are also keen on the forward.

For those of you wondering who the Bundesliga hitman is, there’s plenty to be impressed about.

Mateta has already scored ten goals this season in just nine appearances. His eye-catching tally has been recorded in just 710 minutes of football, which means he’s been averaging a goal every 71 minutes this term.

Additionally, the 23-year-old has likened himself to one of Mourinho’s former strikers in AC Milan marksman Zlatan Ibrahimović.

As quoted by the Bundesliga’s official site, Mateta said: ‘I watched him play when I was younger and I said ‘I want to play like that. I’m a similar size to him, and I play in a similar style.’

If Spurs did manage to sign the Frenchman, it seems like he would be an excellent addition to the former Chelsea manager’s ranks.

Having scored just three goals in 18 Bundesliga outings last season, it appears as if the Sevran-born striker has exploded this term to become one of Germany’s hottest forwards.

It speaks volumes that only Robert Lewandowski and Erling Braut Håland have scored more goals in the Bundesliga than Mateta so far this season, as the BBC show.

Mourinho isn’t in desperate need for a Harry Kane deputy after signing Carlos Vinicius.

However, with the Brazilian only on a season-long loan, who knows if the Portuguese coach will sign him permanently in the summer.
