According to The Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho wants to sign Sevilla defender Diego Carlos – but the asking price is a huge issue.

It’s claimed that Spurs are leading the race for Beijing Guoan defender Kim Min-jae, but Spurs are looking at other central defenders too.

It’s stated that Mourinho particularly fancies Carlos, but Sevilla want more than £35million for his signature – a fee Tottenham would struggle to pay.

The 27-year-old only joined Sevilla from Nantes last summer, but has starred in his first season over in Spain, drawing huge interest.

Just yesterday, La Razon reported that Bayern Munich want to sign Carlos, but there is also interest from Liverpool; Jurgen Klopp allegedly sees Carlos as the ideal partner for Virgil van Dijk moving forward at Liverpool.

Carlos isn’t the tallest of centre backs at 6ft 1in tall, but he is quick, strong and aggressive, whilst he has also earned praise for his ability to play out from the back.

He is something of a late bloomer as he is only just attracting major interest at the age of 27, but he looks like another player Sevilla could make a massive profit on if they were to sell.

That’s where the problem lies for Tottenham, and Liverpool too for that matter. Both clubs have been hit financially by the global pandemic, and may not be in a position to splash the cash.

It’s therefore hard to see either of them paying up for Carlos this summer, even if their respective managers admire the Brazilian star.
