Liverpool will be losing a cult figure in the form of Divock Origi this summer.
The Belgian hitman is out of contract at Anfield in June and honestly, a contract extension won’t be arriving in his pigeon hole at Kirkby.
And that’s because simply put, Liverpool no longer need him.
With Luis Diaz now on Merseyside, even Sadio Mane has been used as a number nine under Jurgen Klopp, another player who Origi is behind in the pecking order after Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino.
That being said, there’s no denying that the former Lille striker has been a massive player for the Reds at times – and even this season, in scoring a last-minute winner away to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
When needed, Origi has often answered the call for Liverpool but, with his contract expiring this summer, he’s almost certainly in the final few months of his career on Merseyside.
One club who could look to sign him on a Bosman is Jose Mourinho’s Roma.
A number of Italian clubs – including AC Milan – have already been linked to signing the 28-year-old but now the Giallorossi are said to be keen.
According to AS Roma Live, Origi is interesting the capital club and, crucially, his salary of £3,100,000-a-year makes him very attainable for the Portuguese manager.
The Italian report adds that Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette is also of interest but, with his salary being over three times as much, Origi is a much more realistic option for Mourinho.
The writing has been on the wall for the Belgium international at Liverpool for years.
However, this season it really is.
Origi hasn’t started a Premier League outing this season – and only managed to start twice in the league during the 2020-21 campaign.
But he’ll definitely be remembered as something of a cult hero at Anfield and no doubt Liverpool supporters will be wishing him the very best.
