And it is claimed that Spurs have now placed Hojbjerg right at the top of their wishlist.
Mourinho is apparently desperate to land the Southampton midfielder, as he looks to strengthen in the middle of the park.
Hojbjerg is a well rounded midfield player, and he could offer Tottenham technical quality as well as tenacity.
Spurs have lacked defensive cover in central areas this term, particularly since Moussa Sissoko was ruled out with injury.
Hojbjerg could yet be available on a bargain deal, as he has just one year left on his contract at Southampton and has not penned new terms.
The Saints could now be forced to sell the 24-year-old on the cheap, with Tottenham seemingly viewing him as a viable target for them.
Hojbjerg has made 31 appearances for Southampton this term, scoring four times and claiming three assists.
