Jose Mourinho is not planning to sign a left-back for Tottenham Hotspur this summer as he wants to give Dennis Cirkin a big promotion, according to the Guardian.

Tottenham boss Mourinho is only thought to have limited funds to spend in the upcoming transfer window, and it is believed that he is now directing his attention away from the left-back area.

Ben Davies has been one of Tottenham’s most reliable performers since Mourinho came in, with the Portuguese boss’s system really suiting the Welshman.

Davies isn’t required to go forward too often, and that suits the 27-year-old, who is much stronger offensively than defensively.

Cirkin, who is just 18, has also seemingly won Mourinho’s trust – and he could head into next campaign as Tottenham’s second choice in the position.

That would be a serious promotion for the prospect, who is yet to make his first time debut yet.

It also raises question marks over where Ryan Sessegnon fits in.

Spurs spent big money to bring Sessegnon to the club last summer, but it seems that Cirkin has nudged ahead of him in the pecking order, and he could struggle for game time now.
