According to Corriere Dello Sport, Jose Mourinho is interested in signing a player heavily linked with Tottenham Hotspur during the Portuguese manager’s spell in North London.
The Italian publication has reported that the newly-appointed Roma coach is interested in bringing Mike Maignan to the capital.
Maignan is linked with a move away from Lille who, according to Corriere Dello Sport, is valued at £25 million.
Tuttomercatoweb reported in April that the goalkeeper was Mourinho’s number one transfer target at Spurs this summer, but the 58-year-old was fired by Daniel Levy shortly after the report.
The Lilywhites certainly need a new goalkeeper, whether it’s for competition for Hugo Lloris or as a replacement.
The France international has been linked with a move away from North London.
And even without the speculation, he turns 35 this year and it makes a lot of sense for Tottenham to start looking at the future.
Aside from Lloris, Spurs only have Joe Hart and Paulo Gazzaniga – who’s on loan – as second and third-choice options going into next season.
And although there’s a lot of experience between all three, it isn’t ideal depth and Maignan would certainly be a valued addition – if Mourinho doesn’t get to him first, that is.
