If rumours are to be believed, Tottenham Hotspur’s chairman overruled Jose Mourinho on one transfer matter.

Thomas Meunier had been linked with a move to Spurs in recent weeks and months, but that won’t be materialising now after the Belgian joined Borussia Dortmund on Thursday.

L’Equipe have today reported that Tottenham boss Mourinho personally phoned Meunier and got a receptive reaction when asked if he’d be up for a stint in North London.

But the French outlet claims that Levy didn’t share the Portuguese’s enthusiasm to sign the right-back.

Meunier, who turns 29 in September, doesn’t really fit the Levy mould due to his age.

Over the past two years, Tottenham have predominantly been signing players between the age of 18 and 24, meaning that the former Paris Saint-Germain defender is well out of that bracket.

That being said, Meunier was available on a Bosman and with money tight at the Lilywhites – who took a £175 million loan earlier this month – at the moment, perhaps they might regret not going for this particular free transfer.
