According to the Daily Star, Tottenham Hotspur have been offered the chance to sign Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa.

It’s claimed that Atletico have put Costa up for sale this summer, and Spurs have been offered the chance to sign him.

Jose Mourinho worked with Costa at Chelsea, and it’s believed that the pair remain close even now.

Costa hit 21 goals in 37 games in his first season under Mourinho, possessing the aggression and physicality that the Spurs boss loves.

Tottenham do need another striker this summer, as Mourinho needs cover for Harry Kane – but Costa isn’t the player he was at Chelsea.

The Spaniard is now 31, has suffered major injury problems in his second spell with Atletico and has managed just 10 goals in 54 league games there.

Costa is brash and powerful, and maybe offers an option off the bench, but his wages could be an issue and there is no resale value in him.

This would be a gamble for Spurs, even if Mourinho knows him well – and there will no doubt be other options on Mourinho’s list this summer.
