CalcioMercato claim Jose Mourinho and Roma have joined the race to sign Montpellier attacker Stephy Mavididi – with Aston Villa, West Ham and Newcastle also keen. It is believed a £15million fee could nab his signature.
Mavididi, 23, scored nine goals last season during 40 appearances – but has stepped up his form this time around. Indeed, the England-born ace has netted eight goals in 23 games and laid on another three assists in France.

TMW claimed earlier this year that Villa and West Ham wanted to sign the three-time England Under-20 international. The Mail also say Newcastle’s interest in the £15million-rated attacker, who wears the no.10 shirt.
Now, Mourinho has added Mavididi to his summer shortlist despite the number of Premier League clubs showing interest. He has a contract at Ligue 1 club Montpellier until the summer of 2024.
Mourinho eyes Mavididi: Newcastle, Villa, West Ham or Roma?
Roma are a good side without the attacking depth to push them forward. Pedro is out of contract in 2023 and Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s deal expires this summer. So, Mourinho needs a younger attacker to replace them.
Newcastle could also do with a player like Mavididi to solve their lack of a top-class right-winger despite the form of Ryan Fraser. West Ham and Villa need him less so, with both clubs boasting numerous options on the flanks.
Villa boast Ollie Watkins, Leon Bailey, Bertrand Traore and potentially Philippe Coutinho if he remains permanently. West Ham have Pablo Fornals, Jarrod Bowen, Said Benrahma and more.
