According to Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has told Gareth Bale that he may need to play as a number 10.
It’s fair to say that Bale hasn’t quite got going in his second spell with Tottenham, having re-joined on loan back in September.
The Welshman clearly isn’t the player he was when he left Tottenham in 2013; that’s somewhat to be expected, as Bale is now 31 and has suffered injury problems over the years.
Bale has scored just twice in his 10 games for Spurs, and has only started one Premier League game for Tottenham as he seeks top form.
He came on as a half-time substitute against Leicester City, but couldn’t prevent Spurs from falling to a 2-0 defeat to the Foxes, only showing a couple of glimpses of his class.
It’s now claimed that Bale has been told by Mourinho that he will have to play as a number 10 at times this season, working behind Harry Kane despite predominantly being a winger.

We have yet to really see that happen, as if Mourinho has used a number 10, he has mostly used Tanguy Ndombele or Giovani Lo Celso in that role.
Dele Alli can barely get a kick as a number 10, and may soon find Bale ahead of him in that battle if Mourinho chooses to go for a very attack-minded line-up soon.
