Let’s face it, Tottenham Hotspur need new defenders during the summer.
Tottenham were held to a 2-2 draw away to Everton on Friday night and their chances of qualifying for the Champions League are in serious doubt.
But it isn’t goalscoring that Spurs have a problem with – it’s keeping them out at the other end.
Serge Aurier is one of quite a few defenders that hasn’t acquitted himself all that well throughout this season, but if a report from Spain is accurate, the Lilywhites might have a replacement in mind.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Jose Mourinho has once again asked Tottenham to sign Brazilian right-back Emerson Royal during the summer.
The 22-year-old has impressed with Real Betis but is co-owned by Barcelona in what is quite a convoluted transfer agreement.
The report from Mundo Deportivo adds that Mourinho also wanted him signed last summer but that the financial issues incurred by the coronavirus made a move impossible.
Emerson has spent the last two seasons with Betis but is returning to Camp Nou during the summer, though that doesn’t mean that the debt-ridden Catalans would not sanction his sale.
The two Spanish sides went halves on the former Atletico Mineiro star two years ago, paying £5 million apiece, but Goal suggested a couple of weeks ago that a £21 million offer may be enough to sell.
