AS Roma are reportedly on the verge of signing rumoured Everton and Newcastle United target Andrea Belotti, with the striker agreeing to join Jose Mourinho’s side this summer.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the 44-cap Italian international will sign for Roma after agreeing to terms with the Serie A giants, however, Roma must first offload a few players to make room in both the squad and on the wage bill for Belotti.

As per the report, Roma are set to beat numerous sides to Belotti’s signature, with AS Monaco and OGC Nice making late offers to sign the former Torino captain, with Everton and Newcastle also both interested in the striking phenom this summer, as well as West Ham.

With Roma already securing Paulo Dybala and Georgino Wijanldum also close to moving to the Italian capital, adding Belotti to the club’s ranks is an impressive piece of business from Mourinho, who is looking to build from last season’s UEFA Europa Conference League triumph.

Indeed, Belotti has been one of the most consistent goalscorers in Italy ever since breaking through at Torino in 2015, and Roma signing the Euro 2020 winner is another incredible option for the Giallorossi for next season, with Tammy Abraham still on the club’s books.

With Roma also beating some top competition for Belotti’s signature in Everton and Newcastle, Mourinho’s pull seemingly remains as strong as ever, and the arrival of the Italian goalscorer could push the Serie A side into a position where they could challenge for the title.

With Mourinho at the helm, silverware is expected at Roma for the coming season, and with Belotti on the verge of joining the club, there’s a realistic expectation in the air that the Giallorossi could do something quite incredible and actually challenge for the Scudetto.

After all, a front three of Dybala, Abraham and Belotti with Wijnaldum and Lorenzo Pellegrini in midfield is a scary prospect, and if Mourinho can get his star players to all gel, Roma could have a serious shot at going for the title alongside AC Milan, Juventus and Inter Milan.
