Manchester United reportedly believe Danny Rose will join them from Tottenham in 2018.
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is increasingly confident of signing Tottenham Hotspur left back Danny Rose in 2018.
Rose, 27, was an inconsistent talent before Mauricio Pochettino’s appointment as Spurs boss in 2014, but he has now emerged as one of English football’s top defenders.
A regular with England, Rose was a key part of Pochettino’s Spurs side, but 2017 has been a frustrating year for the left back, as he missed nine months of action through injury.
More worryingly though, is that Rose seems to be a little unsettled in North London, having told The Sun back in August that he felt underpaid, wanted Spurs to sign bigger-name players and was even open to returning to the north of England.
Now, the Daily Mail report that Manchester United will pursue a deal for Rose in 2018, and is increasingly confident that a £50million deal will be secured either next month or at the end of the season.
Tottenham may not want to sell midway through the season, but United boss Jose Mourinho allegedly believes that an agreement will happen – despite expected difficulties in talks with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.
Rose could be a smart addition for United, adding great balance down the left, but with Ashley Young excelling at left wing back recently, some may even wonder if Rose would even get into the United side right now.
At £50million, United would surely see a huge role for Rose, and after a disappointing 2017 – both on and off the field – Tottenham may be wise to take the money for Rose and move on, leaving Mourinho to oversee the battle between Rose and Young.
