According to AS, José Mourinho and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg have recommended Mikkel Damsgaard to Tottenham.
The 20-year-old is currently starring for Sampdoria, where he is a regular in their starting XI despite his young age.
AS reveal that the Serie A side paid €7 million (£6 million) for Damsgaard.
They now want €21 million (£18.2 million) – three times that amount – if they are to part ways with the wonderkid.
Despite his age, Damsgaard is already a full international, having won two caps for Denmark where he plays alongside Højbjerg and Christian Eriksen.
Impressively, he has already scored two goals for Denmark.
After Mourinho and Højbjerg’s recommendation, the Sampdoria prodigy is on Tottenham’s list of targets.
Spurs, along with Leicester, Inter Milan, Juventus and Roma, are now trying to sign the attacking midfield maestro.
How is Damsgaard doing this season?
Well, the diminutive playmaker has made 34 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals while recording four assists.
Given his lack of experience, you might be wondering what type of player Damsgaard is.
Fortunately, The Athletic included him in a feature showcasing Serie A’s most underrated stars.
When describing the Dane, The Athletic state that he is fine dribbler and also an elite shooter. Pretty encouraging stuff, to say the least.
With Mourinho now at Roma – one of the club’s interested in Damsgaard – it will be interesting to see if the Dane ends up there.
Mourinho is clearly a big fan, or he wouldn’t have recommended the prospect to Tottenham.
