Spurs staff embarrassed by the way Mourinho treated and spoke to Doherty
Jose Mourinho absolutely shattered Matt Doherty’s confidence, with Tottenham Hotspur’s staff ‘embarrassed’ by the way he would talk to the players, the Athletic say.
Mourinho began at Tottenham in positive spirits, but his demeanour rapidly changed as results didn’t go according to plan.
Mourinho publicly criticised Tottenham’s players regularly towards the end of his time in charge.
And it is said that Doherty’s confidence was hurt as a result.
The right-back only joined Tottenham last summer from Wolves for £15 million (Sun), but his first season in North London has not gone according to plan.
Doherty has struggled with the transition to becoming a right-back, rather than a right-wing back.
His performances have seen him become firmly second choice, with Serge Aurier favoured over him.
But Doherty has previously impressed at Premier League level, and there may now be hope around Tottenham that the Irishman could improve under new management, if he can regain confidence again.
