It’s been a horrible season for Liverpool for a number of reasons.
But it could be about to get worse.
Jurgen Klopp has already confirmed that Fabinho will miss this afternoon’s visit to Leicester City in the Premier League.
But The Telegraph has also reported that the big Brazilian – a £43 million signing in 2018 – could sit out the Champions League clash with Leipzig next week, as well as the visit of Everton in the Merseyside derby.
And if true, it’s a massive piece of bad news for Klopp.
The German would technically be without his first four centre-backs against the Bundesliga outfit, because Fabinho has dropped into the back four virtually all season due to injuries to Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk.
And despite proving a brilliant centre-back, the former Monaco man is actually a midfielder and now it remains to be seen who Klopp uses in Europe’s elite competition.
Winning the Champions League might be Liverpool’s only saving grace this season, because a 10-point deficit from Manchester City indicates they won’t be defending their Premier League title.
But it’s just as hard to see them reigning supreme in Europe – especially if Fabinho is now out too.
