Garry Monk will reportedly have money to spend after Lewis Cook’s move to Bournemouth.

According to The Telegraph, Leeds United manager Garry Monk has been assured that he can reinvest the funds from Lewis Cook’s move to Bournemouth.
The Whites lost their top teenager on Friday, as 19-year-old midfielder Cook signed for Bournemouth in a huge deal, with The Guardian claiming that the deal is worth £6 plus £4m in add-ons.
Cook’s departure leaves a big hole in the Leeds midfield, and fans will want to see new manager Monk be given the chance to spend in order to replace Cook, even after landing Swansea City midfielder Matt Grimes on loan last week.
The Telegraph report that Monk has already been given assurances that the money brought in by Cook’s sale will be available for spending on new signings, meaning Monk could have £6m to splash out – but the £3m spent on Kemar Roofe could have been deducted from that.
Monk will now be looking to add even more new faces to his squad, having landed Rob Green, Kyle Bartley, Grimes, Hadi Sacko, Marcus Antonsson and Roofe.
Another midfielder should be targeted after Cook’s departure, whilst another left back to offer cover and competition for Charlie Taylor would also be a smart idea for manager Monk.
It’s unclear just where Sacko and Roofe will feature as they can both play out wide or up front, but Monk may yet want another winger given how Jordan Botaka failed to make much of an impact last season.
Free agent defender Joel Ekstrand is heading to Elland Road according to Swedish TV station Fotbollskanalen, meaning Leeds aren’t spending a penny on a new centre back – freeing up funds for Monk to use elsewhere after an already impressive summer transfer window.
