The editorial claimed the Saints were confident of beating Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal to his signature in what would be a bargain £13 million deal.

But now the Premier League duo could both miss out.

France have their own Franco-French transfer window where clubs have until July 10 to finalise any domestic transfers. Monaco are in a race against time.

The Principality club have reportedly offered Disasi a five-year contract. They are waiting to hear back from the player, while they have yet to agree a fee.

Disasi has proven himself to be one of the top defenders in France this season.

The 22-year-old started 27 Ligue 1 games, averaging 3.6 clearances per encounter (Whoscored).

Arsenal have struggled defensively this season. The Gunners must look at freshening up at the back, with Sokratis and David Luiz both in their thirties.

Southampton, meanwhile, could be looking for a long-term partner for Jack Stephens.
