City do have Aleksandar Kolarov at left back, but with Gael Clichy released at the end of his contract, Pep Guardiola needed a younger, more athletic left back – and he appears to have landed Mendy.
It’s claimed that, whilst Mendy hasn’t signed a contract with City, he is set to complete his move having chosen them ahead of a move to Premier League rivals Liverpool.

The Reds are in desperate need of a left back given that Alberto Moreno seemingly has no future under Jurgen Klopp, and right-footed midfielder James Milner played at left back all season.
Mendy would have been ideal for the role, but Liverpool appear to have missed out to City – and must go back to the drawing board as they pursue transfer targets instead of Mendy.
