The Gambian is not in Paul Clement’s plans at Swansea City.

Swansea City have informed Gambian winger Modou Barrow he can leave the club this month – with Championship sides Aston Villa and Newcastle United both interested in his signature.

The Birmingham Mail is reporting that Swansea boss Paul Clement does not rate the pacey wide-man and has told him he can leave in January.

Aston Villa are after improvements out wide, an area where they have been weak for much of the season so far.

Newcastle on the other hand are looking for the final pieces of the jigsaw that can help them to Premier League football again and Barrow appears to have found his way into the transfer mix at St James’ Park.

The report claims that Barrow has a release clause in his contract of around £5 million and that is a fee both sides could certainly afford if they decided to make a move for the player.

The 24-year-old joined Swansea in 2014 from Swedish side Ostersunds and has been in and out of the first-team at the Liberty Stadium ever since.

A move to either Villa or Newcastle could give him some fresh impetus to kick on in English football.
