The Tottenham Hotspur head of recruitment is currently working a notice period at White Hart Lane.

It quickly emerged that MK Dons were keen on the Tottenham man as their new boss, but The Sun claim finances have put an end to that interest.

Mitchell is working the final five months of a notice period at Spurs, after handing in his resignation in August, and would have to take a significant pay-cut to make the move to stadium:MK as the club’s new head coach.

The Sun report former Bristol City boss Steve Cotterill is now favourite for the job.

Mitchell shocked many when he quit Spurs in August.

It was suggested by The Guardian that Mitchell lost his patience with the Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy after a series of disagreements between the pair regarding transfer targets and policy.

Mitchell, who spent five years at MK Dons as a player and a further two as their head of recruitment, has earned rave reviews for his work behind the scenes at Southampton and Spurs.

He has also recently been linked with a job at French side Marseille and it will be interesting to see the next step in his career.
