GOAL claim that Takumi Minamino is ‘desperate’ to remain at Liverpool despite interest from Leeds United – and the signing of Luis Diaz. The latter’s arrival pushes Minamino down the pecking order, but he is keen to remain.
Minamino, 27, has been in and out of the Liverpool side ever since he joined the club from RedBull Salzburg – the side Leeds target Brenden Aaronson is currently shining with. In two years, he has played 49 times for Liverpool.
He has only started 18 of those 49, though has managed to score 10 goals. A loan to Southampton saw him score two goals in 10 games. Jones reports that an approach from Leeds and Monaco have been rejected by the Reds.
But since then, the Reds have signed Colombian Diaz, pushing Minamino down the pecking order. However, Japan star Minamino remains ‘desperate’ to stay put, even though his game time is likely to reduce more.
Minamino stance: Liverpool star has got to consider Leeds move
While it was only an approach and a signal of interest from Leeds, the Whites would surely love to have the playmaker – given their lack of no.10. Minamino also offers versatility – he can play on either flank.
With Diaz coming in, Diogo Jota shining and Roberto Firmino, Mo Salah and Sadio Mane continuing to start – Minamino is going to struggle to get a look in, in the second half of the season. A loan might be ideal for him.
The chance to go elsewhere in the Premier League, shine and return with the confidence required to break back into the Liverpool side. Leeds would be the perfect stage – but the £75k-a-week (Spotrac) star wants to stay.,
