Report: Milad Mohammadi offered to Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez

Newcastle United could reportedly solve their left-back problems with Milad Mohammadi.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Newcastle have been offered the chance to sign Iran international Milad Mohammadi in a potential move that would see Rafa Benitez address his problems at left-back.

The Magpies boss is keen to sign a player in that area of the field with Paul Dummett his only natural option currently. And perhaps the signing that solves that issue could prove to be the man who made himself something of a cult-hero during the last World Cup.

The Daily Mail reports that Akhmat Grozny have offered the Premier League side Mohammadi this month. The 25-year-old is perhaps best known outside of Iran and Russia for choosing to try and take a throw-in that included a somersault in the final moments of his country’s defeat to Spain in last year’s tournament.

The attempt did not work, but the full-back did secure his spot in folklore for trying.

And he could now be St James’ Park-bound this month. The Mail’s report does not suggest whether Benitez is keen on Mohammadi, but with no signings through the door thus far, he will surely be a player that the Spaniard will consider.

The Newcastle hierarchy must not allow this window to close without making some additions. Mohammadi may not be a marquee name to many, but he could prove to be a shrewd signing.
