Lucas Torreira has been told by Mikel Arteta he is not part of his plans at Arsenal, according to football.london.

What’s the story?

It’s claimed the Uruguayan returned from his loan spell with Atletico Madrid to the club wanting to play this summer.

The player has been linked with a move away from the Gunners all summer long.

And according to Chris Wheatley, Italy is the most likely destination for the diminutive midfielder.

City-rivals AS Roma and Lazio, along with Fiorentina, are all interested in the South American.

The player has previously spoken of his visit to Spain to see a psychologist following a tough spell in N5.

Why did Arteta turn down an offer from Torreira to play for Arsenal?

What more can you ask for as a manager than committed players?

Arteta turning down Torreira, who seems keen on playing for Arsenal, is very strange.

It’s especially strange when you compare the ace from a quality perspective to Mohamed Elneny.

You’d rather have the Uruguay international in your team than the Egyptian.

His dogged determination and steely nature make him the perfect shield in front of any defence. He also possesses the traits to help press teams high up the pitch.

However, Torreira has previously spoken of his determination to leave north London.

So, whilst he did want to return to play for the club this season, there is still an element of doubt about his intentions.

What has changed the player’s mind? Why does he now want to stay at Arsenal? Maybe, it’s because he has not got an attractive offer elsewhere, in which case his intentions are not pure.

The answer to those questions are probably the reason why Arteta has turned him away.
