According to The Northern Echo, Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has given the green light for short-term agreements with players who are out of contract at the club at the end of the month.
However, according to the report, ‘there is a growing acceptance’ that Matty Longstaff will not be at Newcastle beyond June 30 when his current deals runs out.
It has been reported that full-back Javier Manquillo and striker Andy Carroll will sign short-term extensions that will enable them to see out the remainder of the season at the Magpies.
The report has further claimed that both Manquillo and Carroll have verbally agreed to stay at Newcastle until the current season ends.
“Mike Ashley will not be sanctioning any long-term decisions until the Premier League have ruled on the viability of Amanda Staveley’s proposed takeover, but the Magpies owner has given the green light for short-term agreements with players who are due to become free agents at the end of this month,” adds the report in The Northern Echo.
However, according to the report, midfielder Longstaff is set to join Italian club Udinese on a free transfer next month when his current deal at Newcastle runs out.

Manquillo and Carroll are good players who will give Newcastle head coach Steve Bruce options, as the Magpies aim to finish in mid-table this season.
It will also allow the two players to show what they can do in their efforts to earn permanent deals with Newcastle or with other clubs.
