According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United would demand a huge £70million for winger Allan Saint-Maximin.

It’s claimed that Newcastle are likely to price Saint-Maximin out of a move away from St James’ Park by slapping a huge asking price on his head.

No clubs are actually mentioned as wanting Saint-Maximin, but there are surely Premier League sides casting admiring glances.

Newcastle paid £16.5million rising to £20million for Saint-Maximin in 2019, meaning Mike Ashley’s new asking price is around £50million profit and more than three times what the Magpies paid.

Saint-Maximin, 24, has notched three goals and five assists in 24 games for Newcastle this season, continuing to cause problems for defences.

His pace, dribbling and nonchalant skill has made Saint-Maximin a firm fan favourite at St James’ Park, meaning they would hate to see him go.

Ashley won’t suddenly redeem himself to Newcastle fans by slapping a huge asking price on Saint-Maximin, but at least he won’t be on the move for cheap any time soon.

The French wide man has five years left on his Newcastle contract, meaning the Magpies are under no pressure to sell – and even if they did, he would be a club-record sale for the club.
