The Chronicle have reported that Marc Overmars wanted to join Newcastle United during the Mike Ashley era, and now Amanda Staveley and co. want him at St. James’ Park.
What’s the story?
It is being reported by The Chronicle that Newcastle are looking for a Director of Football.
The Premier League club have been taken over by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF).
PIF have identified former Arsenal and Ajax winger Overmars as a candidate.
The Chronicle have reported that Graham Carr recommended the Dutchman to the Newcastle board in his early years at Ajax.
At the time, then Newcastle owner Ashley decided not to go down the Director of Football route.
And now, PIF want Overmars, as reported by The Times, with the Ajax Director of Football open to a switch to St. James’ Park.

Big changes happening at Newcastle
A model of having a director of football above the manager at football clubs is now quite common.
It seems that Newcastle want to go down that route.
The Magpies are also on the hunt for a new manager following the departure of Steve Bruce.
